My freshman year at Howard after a few typical bad experiences with females, I realized that a lot of artists have made records that capitalize on how inconsiderate and trifling men can be in relationships. So I was frustrated with that and it added insult injury cause I had my personal issues going on and like Zoning after I wrote it, things were on the up. ‘Sunshinestate’ was produced by a Rapper/Producer out of Pittsburgh named Jimmy Kong (He goes by Primavera Vills now). I was going through his music page and jamming to a collab project he and another Pittsburgh MC and their work was really dope then all of a sudden mid way through the playlist this incredible soulful instrumental came on. And I was sold on the group, I was like "shit, this song bout to be dope" and then no one rapped. I emailed him and sent the money for the beat in like a week. That beat became ‘SunshineState’. Its by far my favorite song to perform, mostly because despite how corny it sounds, while I was writing it I got an image in my mind of performing it on the Howard University yardfest stage. That song always gets an incredible response when I perform it and even though I haven't gotten the opportunity to do yard-fest yet I’m sure it will do the same when I do.
